CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) Trials and Tribulations

Finally got my networked HP Photosmart C6280 printer working with Linux after much weeping and gnashing of teeth.

If you have tried installing your printer the hp-setup way and ended up with "foomatic-rip" errors, then tried the pure CUPS method only to experience hangs after the first naming and description step of adding the printer via cups -- post a comment and I will expedite the article.
